Privacy Policy

Last updated: 5 April 2026

VoxieCam is built to work entirely on your device. We do not collect, transmit, or store your personal data on any server. This policy explains what happens with your data when you use the app.

Who we are

VoxieCam is developed by Marko Balabanovic, based in the United Kingdom. If you have any questions about this policy, you can reach us via the support page.

Camera

VoxieCam uses your device's camera to identify objects and show translations. All image processing happens on your device using Apple's built-in machine learning. Camera images are never sent to any server, stored on disk, or shared with anyone. When you close the camera view, the images are discarded from memory.

Data stored on your device

The app stores a small amount of data locally on your device:

This data never leaves your device. It is not backed up to any server. If you delete the app, all of this data is permanently removed.

Audio and text-to-speech

VoxieCam plays audio pronunciations using pre-recorded clips bundled with the app and your device's built-in text-to-speech system. No audio data is sent to any external service.

Analytics and crash reporting

VoxieCam uses two services to help us understand how the app is used and to fix problems:

Both services store data in the EU (Germany). Neither service receives camera images, personal information, or anything that identifies you. We do not use advertising, cookies, or fingerprinting. IP addresses are not stored.

We process this anonymous data under the legitimate interests legal basis (UK GDPR Article 6(1)(f)). Our legitimate interest is improving app quality and understanding how features are used. Because this data is anonymous and cannot be used to identify any individual, this processing does not override your rights and freedoms.

Crash reports are retained by Sentry for 30 days. Analytics events are retained by PostHog for 1 year. After these periods, the data is automatically deleted.

As these are US-based entities, we ensure a legal data bridge is in place. Both PostHog Inc. and Functional Software Inc. (Sentry) are certified under the UK Extension to the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework. This ensures they adhere to a high standard of data protection equivalent to the UK GDPR.

You can disable both usage analytics and crash reporting at any time in the app's Settings screen.

What we do not collect

Third-party services

VoxieCam uses the following third-party data processors:

The app's core features (camera, translations, audio) work fully offline without any third-party service.

Children's privacy

VoxieCam does not knowingly collect personal data from anyone, including children. The analytics data described above is anonymous and not linked to any individual.

Your rights

Under UK data protection law (UK GDPR), you have the right to access, correct, or delete your personal data. Since VoxieCam does not collect data that identifies you, these rights are effectively exercised by disabling analytics in Settings or by deleting the app.

If you believe we have not handled your data correctly, you have the right to lodge a complaint with the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) at ico.org.uk.

Changes to this policy

If we make material changes to this policy, we will update the "Last updated" date above. For significant changes (such as introducing analytics), we will notify you through an app update.
